Earlier this month, to celebrate Dyslexia awareness week, Gosforth Junior High Academy trained more students than ever as Barrington Ambassadors. Every Friday, trained student Ambassadors work one-to-one with younger students, helping them build confidence and joy in reading. They work directly with Barrington Stoke publishers who help promote the scheme by sending leaflets, bookmarks and prizes. Gosforth Junior High Academy is proud to be the only school in the UK with specific Barrington Stoke Ambassadors. We're still buzzing with excitement following the official opening of Callerton Academy's brand-new school building. Great Park Academy Officially Opens Its Doors! Further celebrations have taken place as we proudly mark the official opening of Great Park Academy's brand-new school building! Last Friday, we held the official opening ceremony with our students, guests from the Department for Education (DfE), Newcastle City Council (NCC), community groups, Gosforth Group employees, and Trustees. We were honoured to have Catherine McKinnell, MP for Newcastle North, as our Guest of Honour. Guests enjoyed exceptional performances by our students, including a poem they had written about life in the new building, as well as musical performances. The event also featured speeches and the unveiling of commemorative plaques. Catherine McKinnell expressed her pride in officially opening the building, commenting, "It's a real privilege to open Great Park Academy, now rightly at the heart of its community. This new building is a state-of-the-art space where young people can truly achieve and thrive, learn and be creative. It has been a long journey to get to this point, but I want to thank the staff, students and the community for their determination over the past few years. Having a permanent, high-quality school will allow children to unlock opportunities, and I look forward to working with the Gosforth Group to make sure it goes from strength to strength." Our Trust's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Alexandra Thorp, shared her excitement, "We are thrilled to open the doors to our new academies. German exchange sparks international friendships at Gosforth Academy Gosforth Academy is hosting 10 German pupils from the Elisabeth-von-Thadden Schule from Heidelberg this week. Students get to find out what life is like in a British family and school whilst also exploring our shared cultural heritage. From Roman times and medieval castles via the industrial revolution and two world wars, we are now forging new friendships across borders with the help of a taskmaster-style competition, ice creams and sand castles. Tynemouth Priory, Beamish, Durham and York are on the agenda as well as a goodbye party at Gosforth Academy. A New Chapter Begins at Callerton Academy We're proud to announce the official opening Callerton Academy's brand-new school building, a milestone that marks our commitment to delivering exceptional education and creating inspiring learning spaces for our students and community. At the opening ceremony, held on Monday, 13th October, we celebrated the official opening of our school building with our students and welcomed guests from the DfE, NCC, community groups, Gosforth Group employees and Trustees. We were honoured to have Dame Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle Central, as our Guest of Honour, who officially opened the school and unveiled a commemorative plaque that will be proudly displayed in our reception area. Guests enjoyed an outstanding musical performance from our students, who performed 'Hearts Are Pounding', a piece that was also written and composed by our talented students as part of a collaboration with New Writing North.
