    Progression Into Careers

Grow your role. Deepen your impact. Strengthen your future.

Completing the Children’s Workforce Foundation Degree can support progression into a wide range of roles across the children’s workforce, including:

    • Senior Teaching Assistant or Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
    • Early Years Lead or Room Manager
    • Family Support Worker or Early Help Practitioner
    • Youth Worker, Mentor or Inclusion Support Lead
    • Pastoral, Behaviour or Wellbeing Practitioner
    • Social care or health support roles with increased responsibility
    • Leadership, specialist or practice‑focused roles within your current setting

For many learners, the most significant outcome is increased confidence and professional recognition, feeling qualified, capable and ready to step forward, contribute more, and influence practice within teams and across services.

Employers also benefit, developing skilled and reflective practitioners who understand partnership working, collaborative practice and cross‑service delivery.

A Clear Route to a Full Degree

From foundation degree to BA (Hons), without stepping away from work.

This programme provides a clear and realistic pathway into further higher education, designed to fit around working lives.

On completion of the two‑year Foundation Degree, learners may choose to progress to a one‑year Level 6 Top‑Up with an appropriate external higher education provider of choice. Subject to individual entry requirements, this leads to a full BA (Hons) degree.

    This pathway offers:

    • Completion of a full honours degree over three years in total
      (two‑year Foundation Degree plus one‑year Top‑Up)
    • The opportunity to continue studying alongside employment
    • No requirement to relocate or take extended time away from work
    • A structured, supportive route that feels achievable and manageable
    • Improved access to graduate‑level roles and long‑term career progression

For many professionals across the North East, progressing to a full degree has previously felt out of reach. This pathway offers a more accessible, supported and locally rooted way forward.

    Why Progression Matters

Professional growth that works for real life

Progression shouldn’t require stepping away from your job, your income or the life you’ve built. This Foundation Degree is designed to build on your existing experience, connect learning directly to everyday practice and support steady, achievable progression.

It’s about developing confidence, gaining professional recognition and having a clearer sight of where you can go next, at a pace that works for you.

Whether your ambition is to lead, specialise, or feel more confident and valued in your current role, this programme supports meaningful progression with purpose and practicality.

    Your Next Step Starts Here

This programme goes beyond gaining a qualification. It provides a practical route to professional recognition, new opportunities and long‑term progression, shaped around the realities of those supporting children and families every day.
